Arts by Children from Lingen opens cultural orphanage in bangladesh
Arts by Children from Lingen have launched the world's first cultural orphanage. From the capital Dhaka, the group embarks on the morning of 5 December in a minibus full of expectation on his way. The background noise in heavy traffic is met by permanent horns, gasoline vapors, piles of garbage on the edge of the road, slums within the city, here and there a luxury business - all these impressions paint a complex picture of the metropolis. The trip takes you along dusty villages, green rice fields and dirt roads until after Moza / Moishor. About 25 kilometers from the city lies the orphanage, the trip takes 2.5 hours. After this tour, the arrival is like the arrival of a caravan at an oasis. The orphanage, which will give you up to 48 children a new home is surrounded by trees. The area seems flooded with light, and the air is very pleasant. The complex comprises several units and acts like a small village, in the future, to lived and learned. For about 48 children a new world will be in the next few days open up: With great commitment from many sides. Here you can take a deep breath, strengthen yourself and relax, which is the first impression. It consists of four two storied houses for the kids, three large classrooms , a kitchen and dining area , a living area with four rooms for artists and volunteers and the apartment for the caretaker and his wife. The bathroom facilities are decorated according to European standards. The free space in the center acts as a marketplace and is to play as well as use as a stage or open terrace or a communal space that reflect our sub continental most prominent architectural identity "the Courtyard" as a centre of activity surrounded by re-interpretation of local architecture & local aesthetics in respect with climatic factor. Another objective will be to create an overall environment which enhance local culture & identity.

"Much The architects set on the use of local building materials incorporated with modern knowledge. The walls are made of different Clays designed that could be taken from the property and give the complex its various warm colors . For steel structures recycled material was used by the scrapped ships wooden structures consist of local , rapidly renewable woods such as the palm tree & bamboo. Palm wood which can last into local climate for 25-30yrs or bamboo curtain, railing, celling was properly chemical treated to last 25yrs Atlest , most of the board use are marine ply , most of the marine furniture as well as sanitary item are also from scrapped ship. locally made water proof membrane use for army tent placed under handmade clay tile/terra-cotta. quality chemical was injected into most wall floor for prevent insect. Foundation perimeter quality insect chemical into 2'below ground as well as under concrete floor has been used to reduce termite vulnerability. tung oil composite lacquer for finish ensure longevity of the building.
For the cultural center and orphanage , a special educational concept was developed. It is based on a holistic education strategy which has arts education as a central component of general education goal. The creative work is to help the children to handle and overcome their traumatic experiences.
Economic viability :
Many contracts were awarded to local artisans who built the windows , wooden wall, earthen wall, furniture etc. Also main material of this building is mud & wood which has been purchased from grass root community people directly. As a result more than 75% money of this project's building cost spent directly to low income entrepreneur or rural grassroots people,mason labors. Full project is self sufficient in terms of operational required energy including bio-gas for cooking. Structural analysis has been done for a hybrid low cost solution combine with steel ,wood & load bearing earthen wall against tropical storm & earthquake. This project can also be an example for LGED model school program around bangladesh with the similar budget that LGED (local government bangladesh ) or UNDP or USAID or other developing partner spend for similar 2-storied educational institution around bangladesh.
Lessons for 3 classes
Three classes with 24 students from four years to be taught in the house. 16 orphans and eight children from the local community will learn together in each class. The subjects offered include five priority areas : visual arts, Role Play / theater, dance, music , literature, and arts and crafts. The learning content and learning objectives for individual disciplines are drawn up by the Jaago Foundation . The basic subjects are supplemented taught by an online learning concept that the organization was demonstrated by five other schools used . To secure the future operation of the orphanage Arts by Children and based in Dhaka organization Jaago Foundation signed a contract in which Jaago together with ABC obliged to keep the house and develop.
The launch is just the beginning , because there is still much to do . Some construction work must be completed in the coming weeks and months. The kitchen is still provisional , the residential complex only in parts ready. However, a first room is fully furnished, eight beds are made, the bright classrooms upload already learning a first - children can discover their new world .
