This ABC Orphanage-children’s home for Arts by Children will be children´s home for art and theatre. The orphanage will be built for 48 children, who have lost their parents. Project partner Arts by Children (ABC) – Voices for a Better World e.V.” (http://www.artsbychildren.org/) is building this orphanage funded by Help & Hope ( www.helpandhope-stiftung.com )in collaboration with a local consultant/ organization “Architecture for humanity-Dhaka” ( http://dhaka.architectureforhumanity.org ) & “WBR Architekten” (http://www.wbr-architekten.de/) is an architectural firm from Lingen, Germany to design & build an orphanage nearby Dhaka for community partner “JAAGO cultural home” Therefore, Architecture for Humanity –Dhaka ( http://dhaka.architectureforhumanity.org ) Chapter will provide design services, project management, and construction administration for the funding partner “Arts by children”. In other words, Architecture for Humanity – Dhaka Chapter will provide a dedicated team of design and construction personnel appropriate for the project.
As a cultural orphanage main objective will be to create an overall environment which enhance local culture by creating a communal space that reflect our sub continental most prominent architectural identity "the Courtyard" as a centre of activity surrounded by re-interpretation of local architecture & local aesthetics in respect with climatic factor.
Sustainability of project:
Most of the material been use into this project are locally available or recycled material but in combination with modern knowledge . Such as all bamboo curtain railing celling was properly chemical treated thn already one coats burnish , hope to last 25yrs atlest , structure full steel , wall er palm /tal kath 25-30yrs minimum, best quality mahogony wood purchased from dinajpur , most of the board use are marine ply or both side formica ply, marine furniture ship er, sanitary mostly japan or belgium er although use in ship cabin & most fitting are pure s.s, roof e bitumin membrane korean or armider tripol, karosen wood was from recycled ship deck & preasure treated dry, also after completing building boral quality chemical was injected into most wall floor for prevent insect, most steel was 60grade from china ready or BSRM , All foundation perimeter there was BORAL insect chemical into 2'below ground as well as under ground floor concrete so termite can not come into base, mud wall was built with 5%cement add mix and so one except few wall . ( Only week part is some gorgon wood which was used in early period and window hinge handle was not S.S. But it can be changed any time , Now its all about yearly maintenance , tung oil composite lacquer for finish & users way of using. Otherwise building should last At Lest 50-60yrs or more except any disaster risk. Reputable Eng mynul bhai who is well known steel structure designer have done structural 3d analysis for low cost better solution against tropical storm & earthquake. Hope to make it an example for LGED union Porishod model school program around bangladesh with the same budget that LGED (local government bangladesh ) or UNDP or USAID or other developing partner works for educational development into bangladesh and within similar budget they spent for 2-storied school building, if project can be completed accordingly. Also more than 75% money of this building cost spent directly to low income entrepreneur or rural grassroots people rather spending money to industrial giant, after completion project will be self sufficient in terms of operational required energy so dr.saiful haq renewable energy secretary is helping voluntary to make it a smart building by using sensor for low energy consumption during operational period. use of more than 70% recycled steel material except ready i beam means less carbon emission of material production 30% wood recycled from old ship deck, 90% sanitary , furniture are also recycled, most wood item are from fast growing tree like palm, bamboo, Akashmoni, except mahogany. 90%board are also recycled, No big trees from site has been cut during construction & design. Lets hope for the best.
